PEACE SUNDAY 2018
Peace Sunday 2018, sponsored by Unity & Diversity World Council, along with One Global Family Foundation, Interfaith Communities United for Peace & Justice, IMAN Cultural Center and other co-sponsors, is a spiritual call to action, empowering us to build a peaceful and sustainable future.
Last year’s theme “Sacred Activism: Environmental Justice and Human Rights” challenged us, in these increasingly turbulent times, to speak up, stand up, and actualize our most sacred values in our individual lives, our families, communities, nations, and world.
The event spoke to how our sacred activism can powerfully address the injustices being done to our planet in this age of climate change, as well as the injustices suffered by the most vulnerable members of our human family as a result of both political and economic policies.

PEACE SUNDAY 2017
HONORING THE UNITED NATIONS INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PEACE
ll are invited to join us! This year is the 52nd anniversary ofUnity-and-Diversity World Council (UDC), the 16th anniversary of One Global Family Foundation (OGFF), and the 72nd anniversary of theUnited Nations (UN). UDC was born during International Cooperation Year 1965, the highlight of the United Nations 20th anniversary. OGFF was born on September 11th, 2001 after the horrific terrorist attacks which killed thousands of innocent lives in the USA.
Peace Sunday, the annual event sponsored by UDC and OGFF, is a call empowering us to build a peaceful and sustainable future. This year’s theme “Sacred Activism: Caring for Each Other and Mother Earth Through Active Engagement” challenges us, in these increasingly troubled and turbulent times, to step up, stand up, and actualize our most sacred values in our individual lives, in our families, communities, nations, and world.
This year, our sacred activism will address nuclear proliferation and the danger of nuclear waste, which is of specific and immediate concern to us in Southern California due to 3.6 million pounds of nuclear waste potentially being stored in steel drums on the beach at the decommissioned San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station (SONGS).
The United States has over 5,000 nuclear weapons, more than all the other nations armed with nuclear weapons combined. President Trump is seeking to increase our military budget by $54 Billion taking funds away from social and economic services, education, disaster relief, and foreign aid. US military and associated costs account to fifty percent of the US budget. Nuclear weapons, nuclear waste, and climate change are humanity’s most existential threat. WE, the people, have allowed this to happen. WE, the people, must resolve these critical issues. WE, the people, must demand an end to nuclear madness, and demand that our government acknowledge the reality of climate change, and take steps to amend this insanity!
Peace Sunday has always featured inspiring speakers, music, displays of participating groups, and serves as a day of collaborative participation toward creating a more just, sustainable and peaceful world. This year’s Peace Sunday keynote speakers will beUS Congressmember Karen Bass and scientist, aerospace, chemical, nuclear engineerEdward D. McCullough, as well as advocatesCharles Langley and Nina Babiarz ofwww.PublicWatchdogs.org, and Indigenous ElderRev. Adelia Sandoval . Peace Sunday includes a Sundaymorning interfaith service with inspiring presentations from interfaith leaders and performers (10am to 11:30am), lunch, breakout session (12:30pm to 1:45pm), and DON’T MISS the main afternoon Peace Sundaystage program (2pm to 5pm). See the attached flyer for more details.
Additionally, Peace Sunday will feature the screening ofWomen Wage Peace, a new film production ofThe Jerusalem Prayer Project , a special affiliate of UDC, telling the story of courageous Israeli and Palestinian women who are forging a momentous new direction for peace in the Holy Land. Women Wage Peace has been filmed in Israel/Palestine and produced by Stephen Fiske and Robert Corsini.
WE, the people, are called to Sacred Activism. Please show up and let your voice be heard!!
We look forward to seeing you there.
